Introduction

Centre for Healthy Ageing and Wellness (H-CARE) is a Centre of Excellence, established in year 2012. H-CARE members consist of a multidisciplinary research team from various disciplines specialised in geriatric / ageing and wellness research. Currently, there are 19 research team members and 6 support staffs at H-Care.

So far, H-CARE members have had success in securing several high-impact national grants namely LRGS TUA in year 2012 (RM5.4 million). This success has led to several collaborations for global strategies in reducing dementia risks in older persons. These collaborations include the International Research and Network on Dementia (IRNDP), Cohort Studies of Memory in an International Consortium (COSMIC) and the World Health Organization Committee on Dementia Risk Reduction. In year 2019, H-CARE research team obtained LRGS AGELESS grant (RM1.4 million) with collaboration with other research universities in Malaysia for a project related to Cognitive Frailty. H-Care team is in charge of the AGELESS trial and it has been recognized as one of the World Wide FINGERS project. In year 2020, H-CARE received two international grants from the World Health Organization & The Newton-Ungku Omar Fund.

In addition, the SLIM SHAPE project, one of the well-known H-CARE wellness projects has been a popular program at LA 21 Perbadanan Putrajaya. H-CARE has also established the first Pusat Aktiviti Warga Emas (PAWE @ UKM) based at a University under the care of Malaysian Social Welfare Department and is located at Kolej Keris Mas, UKM Bangi. H-CARE’s linkages with multiple industries, international research teams and communities has created a strong platform for collaborative and translational research in the field of ageing and well-being towards healthy ageing.
