Abstract
A
study to determine the water quality changes between run-off water and
rainwater was carried out at two different location, Kajang town and Bangi
(Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia). The objective
of this studies was to determine whether run-off water could be used as
an indicator for urban pollution. Ten and three sampling stations has been
chosen at Kajang and Bangi respectively. A number of selected water quality
parameters particularly for those that are use in determining the Water Quality
Index (WQI) and a few other parameters consisting nutrients, metals and in-
situ parameters were analysed using methods as suggested by American Public
Health Association (APHA) and Global Environmental Monitoring System (GEMS).
Results obtained show that there are an incremental values for most of
parameters studied in run-off water compare to rainwater. As a conclusion, run-off
water may be used as a sole parameter to determine whether the
area has been polluted or not.
