Professor Dr Zaleha graduated from the National University of Malaysia (UKM) in 1989. Between 1995 and 1998, she obtained her membership of the RCOG, Masters in Ob-Gyn (UKM), and MD (University of Newcastle, United Kingdom). Her MD research thesis was on preeclampsia, under a grant from the RCOG. She is currently Professor and Senior Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at UKM Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur, having finished her three-year term as Dean of the UKM Faculty of Medicine in February 2019. Between February 2016 and November 2017, she was also the Director of UKM hospital. Presently she heads the Health Technology Innovation Lab (HTIL@UKM). She has published 133 articles in journals, several books and chapters in books, and more than 150 abstracts and proceedings. Her current research interests include development of a customized Malaysian antenatal growth chart, medical virtual reality (mVR), and drone for emergency medical care. She is Chairperson of the Specialty Education Subcommittee for Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Adjunct Representative of the Global Pregnancy CoLab Group at Magee Women’s Research Institute, iCOE (Intensive Course in Obstetric Emergencies) Trainer, Associate Editor of BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth and Frontiers in Medicine and Frontiers in Surgery, life member of MERCY Malaysia, Honorary Secretary of the Malaysian Society for Simulation in Healthcare (MaSSH), research committee member of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, and was previously President of the Perinatal Society of Malaysia and an appointed member of Malaysian Medical Council (MMC). She is a member of Taekwondo Malaysia (WTF), having attained Black Belt in 2011, and a regular cyclist.
