Introduction to Seminar on Research Methodology
This seminar forms the first level of such a programme. It consists of three modules designed to give a kick start to the career of an academic who has finished a tertiary research programme and is about to embark on his or her career. The research methodology programme (Stairway to the Researcher’s Heaven) provides comprehensive training to the new researcher on how to proceed with research after registering with a research institution or university.
Seminar Mode
All participants will be seated in a seminar hall for the duration of the seminar. Participants will be given hand-outs prior to the seminar. These will be powerpoint presentations of the lectures. These powerpoints will be available both for hard and soft copies.

Programme Contents
Day 01
Research & Innovation: The Value Chain.
Research Concept: The Scientific Method, Elements of the Scientific Method, Stages of Research, and Requirements.
Applying the Scientific Method in Social Sciences, Science, Medicine and Engineering.
Scientific and Critical Thinking
Rationalisation: The Practice of Logical Reasoning, Reasoning and Questioning.
The Scientific Method in Practice: Identification of Problems, Gathering Relevant Information, Propose an Answer, Test the Hypothesis, Construct, Support or Question a Scientific Theory, and Approaches in Quantitative and Qualitative Research.
Day 02
Project Management Process Session 1:
Initiation-Characterisation: Projects, and Problems
Planning Process: Important steps in The Process, Research problems and Hypothesis
Project Management Process Session 2:
Limitations, Definitions: Literature Review, The Research Process, and Scheduling.
Executing & Control: Outcomes, and Consequences.
Managing your research Session 1: Research Plan, Time management, Skills , Data collection, and Analysis of results.
Managing your research Session 2: Scheduling, Organisation, Supervisor Relationship, Writing, Publishing, Interruptions, and Overall Experience.

Prof. Emeritus Dr. Che Husna Azhari
She was an academic Professor and Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, UKM, prior to her appointment as an Emeritus Professor, specialising in Polymer Processing and Nanomaterials. She graduated from Brunel University, England both for her BTech and PhD. Her notable invention is the ENTRAP, an impact attenuation system in defence.
Prof. Dr. Wan Mohtar Wan Yusoff
He is a trained biochemical engineer with a flair and passion for business turnaround and shariah-compliant investment portfolios, with 28 years of research experience in the field of fermentation technology and industrial biotechnology. He is currently a board member of Unikeb Bhd, a registered cooperative with SKM.
Prof. Emeritus Dr. Azah Mohamed
Prior to being appointed as an Emeritus Professor at UKM in 2021, she served the university for more than 30 years. She graduated from UM with both her MSc and PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. She is well-known for her research in Power System Safety, Power Quality, Distributed Generation and Smart Grid. She has supervised 41 PhDs and 25 master's students.
Prof. Dr. Dzuraidah Abd Wahab
Currently, she is a Professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, UKM with vast experience in the field of design engineering having worked with SIRIM and the Public Works Department. Among her research interests are the AI-based and Decision-Making tools for concurrent engineering, and Product Design (Engineering Life Cycle).
