Analysis of Arabic Language Proficiency Post-COVID-19: A Case Study at the University of Malaya

This study evaluates the proficiency levels of Arabic language acquisition among Bachelor of Arabic Language students at the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, University of Malaya, particularly in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. The research issues addressed include skills in comprehending Arabic texts, dictionary usage, and writing proficiency, all of which were impacted by the shift to online learning during the pandemic. The study adopts a qualitative methodology, utilizing a set of comprehension and writing tests to assess students’ skills across different academic years. The findings indicate that the majority of students demonstrated a moderate level of proficiency, with only three out of 20 respondents achieving satisfactory levels. The study concludes that weaknesses in sentence construction and a lack of practice in Arabic communication are the primary causes of the moderate performance. Recommendations are made to improve students’ skills through more consistent practice and a deeper understanding of test questions.

Ibn al-Muqaffa’ is a prominent figure well-known among literary and political circles, with his works becoming a phenomenon in the study of Arabic literature and serving as a catalyst for political reforms. One of his most famous works is Kalilah wa Dimnah. Kalilah wa Dimnah is primarily recognized for its linguistic and moral aspects rather than its political elements. This is due to the fact that most studies on Kalilah wa Dimnah have focused more on language and morality rather than politics. Therefore, this study aims to focus on the political elements present in Kalilah wa Dimnah, examine Ibn al-Muqaffa’s political background, explore his political contributions, and analyze the political themes contained within Kalilah wa Dimnah. The method used in this research is qualitative, involving two approaches: data collection and data analysis. Ibn al-Muqaffa’s political thought can be observed through his work Kalilah wa Dimnah, which encompasses advice to leaders on governance and administration. The characters in Kalilah wa Dimnah are symbolic of human behavior and carry specific meanings. Therefore, it is hoped that this study will produce a scholarly work that can serve as a reference source in the future.

This information technology study revolves around the needs analysis of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) students for learning Arabic reading skills using the website. The problem of the study is briefly explained about the weakness of students in Arabic reading skills and the lack of research on Arabic reading skills using websites. Thus, this study aims to find out the needs of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) students for learning Arabic reading skills using the website and to find out the problems faced by students when using the website. In this study, the researcher relied on a descriptive approach, used a quantitative strategy, and analyzed the data using SPSS version 26. The researcher selected students of the bachelor’s Degree in Arabic Professional Communication Semester 2 study sessions March – August 2023 as a study sample consisting of 86 people. Based on the findings of the study, the level of need of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) students for learning Arabic reading skills using the website shows a high score of 4.03, and the problems faced by students when using the website as an aid to learn Arabic reading skills also have a high score of 3.8741. The results of the study show that the students of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) really need the website in learning Arabic reading skills, but due to the problems they face when using the website, they have restricted their focus on learning Arabic reading skills well. The study suggests that those who develop a website that is more accessible to students and developed using the ADDIE model so that their learning through the website becomes more effective. This study also suggests that further studies should be continued in the field of Arabic reading skills using websites because this field still needs extensive studies.

This research aims to identify the extent of the influence of main animated characters on children. The researchers have chosen the character of “the princess” as one of the most beloved and impactful figures for young girls. Based on this, the researchers intend to highlight the two animated works “Cinderella” and “Sally,” which embody the princess symbol, as they are among the most well-received and popular among viewers. They are similar in appearance but differ in their plots and presentation due to the varying production companies. In this study, the researchers rely on two methods: analysis and comparison, to illustrate the similarities and differences between the two works in terms of animation, content, and language, and to reveal the positive or negative effects each work has on children.

The study aims to extrapolate and clarify the Qur’anic verses related to coercion in religion from the Holy Qur’an, and to clarify the approach of the Holy Qur’an in presenting a topic and clarifying the reasons leading to coercion in religion and its most important types and the impact of coercion on legal rulings. The researcher followed the inductive approach to follow the Qur’anic verses, the analytical method to discuss and judge the most important issues he collected, and then the comparative approach by presenting opinions, their evidence and discussing them to reach the most likely opinion. One of the most important results was that the Holy Quran presented the types of coercion in religion in various ways and different ways to get out of this subject before falling into it to achieve a safe life and the full dignity of society.
