BANGI, 9 February 2024 – The recent Tun Ismail Mohamed Ali Distinguished Chair Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (YTI-UKM) Public Lecture delved into the complex world of retail investor behaviour within the stock market, offering objective insights and analysis.

The lecture was delivered by the 6th YTI-UKM Chairholder, Prof. Dr. Allaudeen Hameed, who shared valuable insights to help everyday investors better understand and succeed in the stock market.

Officiating the lecture was Deputy Vice Chancellor Industry and Community Partnership Affairs, Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Norazah Mohd Nordin who highlighted that the stock market plays a vital role in our financial system as it reflects investors’ sentiments.

She highlighted that despite being more accessible, the stock market remains complex and unpredictable.

“Retail investors experience market highs and lows, guided by numerous factors such as economic data and behavioural biases.

“Their collective actions can lead to significant market movements, and understanding their behaviour provides insights into the market’s dynamics and helps us predict future patterns,” she said during the lecture organized by the Faculty of Economics and Management.

She noted that Malaysia is committed to enhancing its knowledge and practical capabilities within the financial sector.

Therefore, the establishment of the YTI Distinguished Chair at UKM is a strategic move aimed at enriching research and publications in crucial areas such as investment analysis, fund management, demographic analysis of investors, as well as, financial and investment planning.

“These efforts are crucial for advancing national development and evolving the financial and investment landscapes with innovation and informed decision-making.

“I believe this lecture could provide an excellent opportunity for collaboration between government agencies, universities, ministries, and countries,” she concluded.
