The purpose of such event is to create awareness among the public that good driving habit combined with a fuel efficient vehicle leads to lower exhaust emission, thus reducing environmental impact. Each eligible participating university will be donated an unregistered Perodua Myvi for which students will have the opportunity to modify in order to improve the fuel efficiency in order to achieve the longest distance . The teams will demonstrate their engineering capabilities and effective driving skills in a race. A small fund will also be provided by Perodua to partially assist university with the modification. The modification parts are subjected in Rules and Regulation of Eco-Challenge. There will also be booths provided for which participating universities will be able to display the modification work done to their cars. All non-participating students and staff from the university are strongly encourage to give their moral support at the racing venue.

The purpose of the Perodua Eco-Challenge 2011 is to challenge engineering capabilities among students through the build up of a vehicle which leads to improved fuel efficiency. To make this year’s event more interesting, the competition will adapt a new format where each participating institution will be donated with a 660cc engine, transmission and ECU. It will be a test of the team’s design capability and engineering prowess. Perodua will provide a start up fund to each participating team to partially assist them with the vehicle construction. Each team will be provided with a booth to display the work done to their cars. We also strongly encourage non-participating students and staff from the institutions to give their moral support during the race day.

Perodua Eco Challenge 2012

In Perodua Eco-Challenge 2012, all 13 higher education institutions that participated in 2011 will compete again. The team that participated in the program to improve their racing vehicles last year based on the concept of using a buggy ViVA 660cc engine given by Perodua which provide initial funding RM10,000 to each team. For more challenge and excitement, Perodua also extended an invitation to the faculty of business, commerce or management in the participating institutions to compete by delivering marketing plans, promotional and business for their team racing vehicles. Perodua also will provide to each group of RM 5,000 for marketing and promotional activities, and a panel from industry will choose the winners.

In the Perodua Eco-Challenge 2013, each qualified participant from higher learning institution will be given an unregistered Perodua Myvi 1.3L UK version. The participating students will have the opportunity to redesign a car based on “City Concept Car” with a new upper body car base (complete with passenger area and luggage) that travels the longest distance with the fewest fuel consumption (in urban mode). 10 selected teams will demonstrate their engineering capabilities and effective driving skills in a race. A small fund will also be provided by Perodua to partially assist each team with the modification. There will also be booths provided for each participating universities to display the modification work done to their cars. For the second consecutive year, we will also have the marketing challenge category which is open to students from marketing business or even engineering school from each of selected university. Under this category, the students will have to present a product presentation on how to promote the vehicle designed by the engineering students using the most innovative marketing tools including the production of print and electronic commercials, social media, press conferences and others.
