English Language Course
English language courses are offered to the undergraduate students as a graduation requirement.

- Registration for English courses is based on MUET (Malaysian University English Test) Band and its equivalent.
- To fulfill graduation requirements, it is COMPULSORY for students to complete the required total number of credits for English courses. The total number of credit hours of English courses to be fulfilled is as below:

- Students are required to take and pass each level of English language courses before registering for the courses at the next level. Students with grade E MUST repeat the course.
- Please refer to the English Language Programme Structure for course registration based on your faculty/ study programme. For students enrolled in the 2018-2019 session or before, please refer to Ketua CITRA Bahasa Inggeris/Head of English Language, PPCU to register for the English language course.

General Requirements
- Students with IELTS, TOEFL certificates, or any other English Language Certificates may register for English courses by submitting a copy of the result slip/certificate as proof to the Ketua Citra Bahasa Inggeris/Head of English Language, PPCU.
- The following students are eligible to apply for vertical credit transfer: a) Diploma (Polytechnics and public/private/overseas institutions); or b) Diploma IB (International Baccalaureate).
- The Vertical Credit Transfer Application can be obtained from the SMPweb. This form has to be submitted to the Dean/Director of Faculty or Centre at the latest by week 4 of the first academic session.
- Students are also eligible to apply for linear credit transfer if they:
- hold a bachelor’s degree from other institutions;
- switched study programme in UKM; and
- have completed any student exchange program (mobility) overseas.
- Students can apply for credit transfer for Level One English Language courses only, i.e., LMCE1042, LMCE1062, LMCE1072, or LMCE1082 depending on the applicant’s English qualifications. Approval of the application is subject to consideration.
- The Horizontal Credit Transfer Application Form can be obtained from students’ SMPweb. This form has to be submitted to Pusat Pengajian Citra Universiti (PPCU) for approval at the latest by week 4 of the first academic session.
- Students applying for credit transfer MUST obtain approval from Pusat Pengurusan Akademik (Akademik-UKM) before registering for the required English Language course.
- For applications not approved, students have to register for the first-year English language course in Semester 2 of the study session.
- For applications approved, the following is the total number of credits for English language courses to be fulfilled:

GENERAL RULES FOR TAKING ENGLISH COURSES (2022-2023)
- English course registration is based on MUET level/band.
- In order to meet the graduation requirements, students entering the 2022-2023 Session MUST complete the following number of English course credits:

- Students who have an IELTS, TOEFL or other English language approval certificate can register for an English language course by submitting proof of approval to the Head of English Language, PPCU.
- The following graduate students are eligible to apply for vertical credit transfer:
- Diploma (Polytechnics and IPTA/IPTS Colleges/Overseas Institutions); or
- IB Diploma (International Baccalaureate).
- Note: For vertical credit transfer applications, students need to fill in the Vertical Credit Transfer Form. Applications must be made through the Academic Management Center (Akademik-UKM).
- Students are also eligible to apply for horizontal credit transfer if they meet the following criteria:
- they have studied a bachelor’s degree program at another institution, even if they have not completed it.
- have participated in study program exchanges at UKM and
- or have taken part in student exchange programs (mobility) abroad.
- Note: For horizontal credit transfer applications, students need to fill in the Horizontal Credit Transfer Form. Applications must be made directly at the University Citra Study Center (PPCU).
- Courses that can be applied for credit transfer are level one English courses namely LMCE1042, LMCE1062, LMCE1072 or LMCE1082; depending on the course to be taken (refer to English Course Offer Structure Session 2022-2023). Approval of the application is subject to PPCU’s consideration.
- Students who apply for credit transfer MUST get a decision from the Academic Management Center (Akademik-UKM) first before registering for the English course.
- For credit transfer applications that are not approved by Akademik-UKM, students must register for an English language course in the Semester II session.
- For approved credit transfer applications, the following are the total English course credits that need to be completed:

- Students must take and pass the prescribed English course before registering for the next English course. Students who get an E grade have to repeat the course.

In order to fulfil the graduation requirements for the 2021-2022 Session, students must successfully complete a specific number of English language course credits. The credit requirements are as follows:
i) 7 credits for MUET levels 1, 2.0, and 2.5.
ii) 5 credits for MUET levels 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, and 5+.(Refer to the Structure of English Course Offerings Session 2021-2022).
- Students who have not sat the MUET Test must sit the CBET Interim test before being allowed to register for any appropriate English language course. Students can contact the Head of English Language Courses, School of Liberal Studies (CITRA UKM) via email, mazidah@ukm.edu.my.
- Students who have passed IELTS, TOEFL or other English language passing certificates can register for English courses by submitting proof of passing to the Head of English Language Courses, CITRA UKM.
- Students who have not sat the MUET Test and have not obtained the equivalent exam results (TOEFL/IELTS or other passing certificates), can only register for English language courses after sitting the CBET Interim test.
- The following graduate students are eligible to apply for vertical credit transfer:
i) Diploma (Polytechnics and IPTA/IPTS Colleges/Overseas Institutions); or
ii)IB Diploma (International Baccalaureate).For vertical credit transfer applications, students need to fill in the Vertical Credit Transfer Form. Applications must be made through the Academic Management Center (Akademik-UKM).
