Department of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine
The Department of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine (DTERM), Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), has been a pioneering force in advancing tissue engineering and regenerative medicine in Malaysia. Since its modest beginnings in 1999 as the Tissue Engineering Laboratory, DTERM has continuously driven innovation by cultivating creativity and expertise in both fundamental and translational clinical science. Our journey began with the development of MyDerm®, the nation’s first homegrown tissue-engineered skin substitute for burn and trauma patients. Building on this foundation, we have expanded into a diverse range of initiatives to deliver therapeutic solutions through tissue engineering technologies. Many products conceived at DTERM through close collaborations with clinicians are now progressing through the translational pipeline. Among the latest are ColPatch, an ovine collagen sponge designed for wound treatment, and Skin Cell Drop, a fully autologous cell-based therapy enriched with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). We warmly welcome collaborations with partners to exchange expertise and resources, advancing the translation of these promising innovations from bench to bedside to improve patient outcomes. Beyond clinical applications, DTERM is also venturing into aesthetics and wellness through tissue engineering and regenerative medicine initiatives, paving the way towards a healthier and happier lifestyle
