Operasi Khidmat Masyarakat (OPKIM)

The annual programme of the Faculty of Pharmacy, OPKIM 2024 (Operasi Khidmat
Masyarakat) is back again. This event aims to channel community service to the local
community by focusing on health care. This year, the programme spanned for 5 days from April
30th to May 4th 2024 and took place at Kampung Batu 16 Dusun Tua, Hulu Langat, Selangor.

On the first day, 60 participating students departed from Kolej Tun Syed Nasir as early as
8:30 a.m. to prepare for the opening ceremony that was held at the public hall of Kampung
Dusun Tua. The opening ceremony was lightened up by the attendance and speech delivered by
Y.B. Datuk Wira Johan, along with Prof. Dr. Mohd, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, and
representatives from each sponsoring organization. The students were also greeted with a warm
welcome from the local community and were assigned to their respective foster families. For
your information, the students were grouped into foster families consisting of 5 to 15 individuals
each, with whom they would reside for the duration of the five-day program.

Alongside the tagline “Approaching community and spreading smiles”, they kicked off
their mission on the second day packed with various activities. The first morning and noon
session was Home Medication Review (HMR) at the local community’s house. The students will
be in a group with pharmacists on duty and they will explain the purpose of HMR. HMR
engaged in activities related to reviewing medication based on respective prescriptions and
assessing the FELDA residents’ understanding on common medical devices by describing details
in medication intake such as how medications are administered, stored, and ensuring adherence
to medication instructions. Later in the evening, several committees organized games and
recreational activities, such as musical chairs and coconut bowling. Before ending the day, they
had a small sharing session about social responsibility in maintaining health.

On the next day, all committees were divided into two big groups. Group A was required
to conduct health screenings, health exhibitions, interactive games and sell JATI products.
Meanwhile, the other group was doing HMR. This whole session was held in SK Dusun Tua.
After lunch hour, the committee worked together with the local community to clean up the

village surroundings. Furthermore, on the 4th day, they had a community gathering and helped
each other by cooking, preparing the venue and decorating the hall for Hari Raya celebration.
The head of Kampung Dusun Tua, Mr. Md Ngapdi Bin Ahmad Harmain, and Selangor’s
Member of Parliament, Mr. Mohd Sany Bin Hamzan, were present at the ceremony and
delivered their speeches. There were also live performances from our talented students.

4th of May, remarked as the last day of OPKIM, the committee assembled at the
community hall for the last briefing before the closing ceremony. The closing ceremony
commenced at 10:00 a.m., followed by the students bidding farewell to their families and
departing thereafter. With that, the programme comes to an end.
