The Coating and Oath-Taking Ceremony is an annual tradition at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). This year, it became even more special with the celebration of World Pharmacist Day 2024. The event took place on October 14, 2024, at Lecture Hall 1, UKM KL, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The ceremony had three main purposes: welcoming new pharmacy students, celebrating World Pharmacist Day, and recognising students’ outstanding achievements from the second semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. It was a must-attend for all pharmacy students at UKM.
The event began with the arrival of distinguished guests, including the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Mohd Makmor Bakry, and the Secretary-General of the Malaysia Pharmacists Society, Mr. Lim Jack Shen. Both shared inspiring speeches. In addition, Prof. Emeritus Dr. Paraidathathu Thomas, Executive Dean at Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences of Taylor’s University, gave a heartfelt talk on the theme “Pharmacists: Meeting Global Health Needs” in honor of World Pharmacist Day.
One of the most meaningful moments was the Coating and Oath-Taking Ceremony, where five final-year students presented white coats to five first-year students. This tradition symbolizes the beginning of their journey as future pharmacists. All students then participated in an oath-taking, promising to uphold the ethical standards of their profession.
The event continued with a Certificate of Appreciation presentation to PMFFar (Persatuan Mahasiswa Fakulti Farmasi) for their contributions, along with a special gift to the National Sports Pharmacy Carnival (NPSC) participants representatives. The ceremony concluded with the recognition of 114 students across various academic years for their excellence in the 2023/2024 academic session.
In short, this ceremony was a celebration of achievements, leadership, and the spirit of the pharmacy profession, giving new students a sense of purpose and motivation to strive for excellence in the years to come.
