Did you know that Yuichiro Miura, an 80-year-old Japanese mountaineer, climbed Mount Everest in 2013? His incredible feat reminds us that age or experience is no barrier to staying active. Sports are for everyone—young or old, beginner or expert—and offer countless benefits for both body and mind. Whether you’re looking to boost your health, clear your mind, or simply have fun, engaging in sports can be your perfect companion.
To encourage this, the Biro Sukan dan Rekreasi of Persatuan Mahasiswa Fakulti Farmasi (PMFFar) recently organized “Jom Bersukan sambil Belajar Teknik Asas Sukan”. Held from 16th to 20th December 2024, the event provided a space for students to explore sports like netball, basketball, volleyball, and frisbee while learning basic techniques from experienced coaches. Each day focused on a single sport, giving participants the chance to try everything without worrying about overlapping schedules.
With 83 participants from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health Sciences, and Faculty of Dentistry, the event buzzed with energy. Students learned skills such as passing, shooting, and ball control in basketball and netball; serving and blocking in volleyball; and frisbee throwing and catching techniques. But more than just learning the rules, participants enjoyed stepping out of their comfort zones, staying active, and connecting with friends in a lively and supportive environment.
Although this year’s event has ended, don’t worry! It will be back next year with more exciting activities and sports to try! Whether you’re a seasoned player or someone looking to start, remember that it’s never too late to discover your love for sports. So, let’s embrace an active lifestyle, because when we move, we grow not just in fitness but also in confidence, friendships, and joy.
