Felt despair after results? Losing hope? Have no ideas on how to keep up to other people’s pace in studies? Self-motivation and excellence programme is the key to your problem.  A notable quote was once said by Zig Ziglar. “When obstacles arise, you change your direction to reach your goal; you do not change your decision to get there,” he said. On the 23rd of February 2013, a self-motivation and excellence programme was organized by the Faculty of Pharmacy in order to motivate and guide undergraduates on how to excel in their studies. The event took place in Dewan TIBE, UKM Kuala Lumpur Campus. The theme of this programme was “Selangkah Menuju Kejayaan” (A Step To Success).

At 8.00am, the undergraduates arrived and took their respective seats while waiting for the event to officially start. The Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr Mohd Ibrahim bin Jantan and the VIPs arrived at Dewan TIBE at 8.30am. The event started off with the national anthem, Negaraku, followed by the university song, Varsiti Kita. A prayer was cited after that. A speech was given by the director of the event, Nur Athirah bin Mohamad, followed by a welcoming speech by the dean of the faculty, Prof. Dr Mohd Ibrahim bin Jantan. A souvenir was presented to the dean as a token of appreciation.

The first slot, A Talk On Self Potential, started and the talk was given by Dr. Muhamad bin Jantan, the pioneer leader of NLP (NeuroLinguistic Programming) in Malaysia and official motivator of Auralife Sdn. Bhd. All the undergraduates listened attentively and enthusiastically as he gave his talk. About 11am, the second slot, Mind Explore started. This slot was the most funniest of all as undergraduates were able to participate in various games that were beneficial to them. Groups of 6 to 8 were formed and games such as sudoku, new product design using straws, rubber bands and newspaper and a poster on hopes and dreams. Overall, Group 2 won. The third slot, Time Management Skills, took place around 12pm. This session was carried out with the lecturers. The lecturers gave advice on how to manage their own time and solve problems. The event ended with the presentation of souvenirs as a token of appreciation to the VIPs and speakers by Associate Professor Dr. Jamia Azdina Jamal.

Overall, the event went on smoothly and it was a success. The undergraduates were attentive and enthusiastic throughout the event. The undergraduates obtained a lot from this programme and this programme should be held every year. As what is quoted by Hasidic, everyone should carefully observe which way his heart draws him and then choose that way with all his strength.
