PROGRAM: (PHYSIOLOGY)

Study Duration

The purpose of this program is to produce graduates who are able and independent in conducting research activities. Among the objectives of this program is to produce graduates who are sensitive and knowledgeable in conducting and leading research, planning and executing activities as well as finding and managing grants.

This program only offers full research mode. It takes 6 – 12 semesters for full-time students or 8 – 14 semesters for part-time students.

Entry Requirements

  1. Candidates must have a Master of Science or equivalent from an institution recognized by the Senate.
  2. The minimum qualification for a Malaysian candidate is a cumulative grade (CGPA) of 3.67 for a Bachelor of Science (Honors) candidate or its equivalent.
  3. For Master of Medical Science (Physiology) candidates, the upgrading of study level can be applied subject to the UKM Act and the UKM (Graduate Studies) Regulations.
  4. Obtained Band 3 in MUET local students.
  5. Obtained a minimum score of 79-93 in TOEFL or Band 6.5 in IELTS for international students.
  6. International candidates must attach proof of sponsorship from a government or government body certified by Malaysia.

Teaching & Learning Method

Learning outcomes and educational targets are processed to produce complete graduates holistically in line with the mission and vision of the university. The characteristics of the graduates that will be produced are innovative and leadership in the process of knowledge development. This helps to create a dynamic and knowledgeable society.

In order to achieve learning outcomes, teaching – learning methods include activities that involve research studies:

  • Literature review,
  • Designing and conducting research,
  • Data compilation, analysis and interpretation,
  • Thesis and manuscript writing, AND
  • Seminar and scientific conference presentation.

The teaching – learning method is consistent with the curriculum where it involves weekly supervision, supervision reports every six months and continuous monitoring at the departmental level. This program involves research only. Therefore, candidates need to do laboratory work to complete their project.

Assessment

Formative assessments include presentations, practicum exercises, written assignments and manuscripts for publication. Summative assessment involves the evaluation of theses and viva sessions conducted by external and internal examiners of UKM. Presentation and question and answer sessions during viva are conducted to assess the candidate’s ability in terms analyzing, interpreting and critically thinking on the research that has been conducted.
