JSM Colloquium Series: Data Storytelling: Fusing Artistic Flair with Scientific Insights
WARM REMINDER: INVITATION TO JSM COLLOQUIUM SERIES
Dear Prof./Dato/ Datin/ Assoc. Prof./ Dr./ Mr./ Mrs./ Ms.,
We are pleased to inform the JSM Colloquium Series will be held as follows:
Title : Data Storytelling: Fusing Artistic Flair with Scientific Insights
Speaker : Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noratiqah Mohd Ariff
Statistics Programme, Department of Mathematical Sciences,
Faculty of Science and Technology, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
Abstract : In a world where boundaries between disciplines are as grey as they can be, data storytelling lies in the heart of it all. An effective data storytelling is believed to be a successful marriage between arts and science. Should we call this artistic science or scientific arts? In a nutshell, data storytelling involves crafting a compelling narrative that communicates insights from data by employing visualizations in order to drive decision making. For this sharing session, I would love to delve deeper into the underlying concepts of data storytelling which are data visualization and communication. We will look into the use of visualizations throughout the years, prominent figures and activities we have done so far in the department to embrace this new culture. Please join me in this casual discussion and let us make information come to life. See you there.
Date : 30 August 2024 (Friday)
Time : 10.00 am – 11.00 am
