YAM Tunku Zain Al ‘Abidin ibni Tuanku Muhriz, more popularly known as Tunku Zain, is the Royal Fellow of the National University of Malaysia. He founded the Institute of Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) and serves on the boards of Yayasan Chow Kit, Yayasan Munara, the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, and the Genovasi Foundation. He is also a patron and advisor to various educational and musical groups, a committee member of several organisations, and a newspaper columnist. As a columnist for several newspapers, he has expressed his views on public affairs and ideas for a better nation.
He attended Kuala Lumpur Alice Smith School, Marlborough College, and the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he received an MSc in Comparative Politics. Before returning to Malaysia permanently, he worked in the UK Houses of Parliament, the World Bank, the United Nations Development Programme, the KRA Group, and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. YAM Tunku Zain is a gifted pianist with a strong interest in music. He is a patron of the Euroasia Association of Performing Arts, or Euroasia, and regularly contributes to the organization’s efforts to develop and share music teaching and performance. Tunku Zain aspires to motivate young minds to consistently outperform themselves, as well as to properly comprehend public governance and policies in order to promote progress and eventually establish the country on the same pedestal as other industrialized nations.
