It was a good chance for me to know basic background knowledge about Islam in Malaysia. All classes dealt with topics that could motivate participants to learn more about Islam. I could become more curious about Islamic law in Malaysia and how two different courts in Malaysia can work in one nation. As a student who have studied about Malaysia and Indonesia, especially about Islam and adat, it gave much more than just reading. Thank you for this program to all lecturers and UKM.

UKM’s Summer School programme on ‘Islam in Malaysia’ is an excellent introduction to understanding the context, framework and institutions that make up how Islam exists in the country. While intense for two-weeks, it covers all major aspects of Islam and its influence in Malaysia’s political, social, legal and economic scene. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a primer on the subject, with an opportunity to learn further after.

Aziff Azuddin

I like how the course helps us to have a overall understanding of how Islam considered to be in Malaysia from the perspectives of the history and speech of the professors. I think it does give students a chance to build the ideal image of Islamic integration in their own lives and also have the consciousness about how Islam can combine with the modern governmental system and democracy.

And, I think if we don’t know Malaysia well, this program is big chance to understand Malaysia as it is. I think the relationship between Islam and modern system is interesting and give us some clue to apply to other cultures idea to the society.
