Introduction
–
The International Symposium of Health Sciences (i-SIHAT) is a biennial event organized by the Faculty of Health Sciences, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Originally conceived as a platform for members of the Faculty of Health Sciences (FSK) to present and discuss research findings in the field of Health Sciences, this symposium has successfully attracted numerous external collaborators, particularly from abroad.
The primary aim of the symposium is to discuss and explore research findings related to health science practices, which in turn, contribute directly to enhancing the quality of healthcare services in the country. Additionally, the symposium serves to sustain and encourage ongoing research among health science researchers and professionals.
This symposium is expected to expand knowledge and educate the next generation in this field. Health science researchers and professionals play a crucial role in strengthening the healthcare system of the nation. With the emergence of antimicrobial-resistant microorganisms, SARS-CoV-2 mutations, rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and increasing drug addiction, particularly nicotine, it is evident that proactive measures to highlight the latest research on these health issues are necessary.
The theme for this year’s symposium is “Nurturing Global Wellness: Towards Flourishing Sustainable Health,” reflecting the commitment to advancing health sciences by applying the latest research findings and technologies in response to global health threats.
This year, the symposium will be held in person at Zecon Hotel, Tunku Ampuan Besar Tuanku Aishah Rohani Hospital (UKM Children’s Specialist Hospital) from September 4 to 5, 2024. The multidisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and interdisciplinary discussions will focus on various issues related to health sciences. The ideas generated from this symposium are expected to benefit the university and the broader community, and contribute towards enhancing the quality of healthcare services to be on par with regional standards.
