This paper presents a comprehensive review and proposes prospective research directions for the establishment of a patient-centered hospital in Malaysia that aligns with the principles of maqasid syariah. The integration of maqasid syariah, which encompasses the higher objectives and goals of Islamic law, with patient-centered care aims to create a healthcare environment that prioritizes the well-being and needs of patients while adhering to Islamic ethical principles. The review encompasses an analysis of the key principles of maqasid syariah, including the preservation of life, human dignity, justice, and holistic well-being. These research directions encompass various aspects, including healthcare facility design, communication strategies, equitable access to care, ethical considerations, and the integration of spirituality in healthcare. The outcomes of this research are expected to contribute to the advancement of healthcare practices in Malaysia by integrating Islamic values and patient-centered care principles in developing a framework that can be done in future. The proposed patient-centered hospital will not only provide high-quality care but also ensure the preservation of life, uphold human dignity, promote justice, and address the holistic well-being of patients.

The Transformation of Waqf in Turkey from the Ottoman to the Contemporary Period
Ahmad Wira, Meirison & Elfia
This paper aims to provide an overview of the existence of waqf in Turkey and the changes that occurred during the Ottoman Empire, which for a long time sustained the existence of Islamic civilization, including community service in the fields of worship, education, social and military. Even though Turkey has been completely secularized, waqf still exists in various forms. Using literary methods, historical qualitative approaches, and descriptive analysis, the researchers attempt to reveal the conditions and types of waqf in Turkey during the Ottoman period and the modern era, namely after the fall of the Ottoman Empire. In general, the researchers found that waqf in Turkey was used for humanitarian purposes, both for Muslims and non-Muslims, and animals might also benefit from the waqf. In the post-Ottoman Turkish period, waqf emerged in other forms, such as special waqf to deal with earthquakes and natural disasters, as well as to help widows and children of war victims. Sufi orders also played a role in the development of waqf, which avoided direct conflict with the secular government of the time of Kemal Atatürk and his supporters. Sufi orders lived to develop Waqf in community services, hospitals, education, and other social activities—expansion of sufi waqf in the Balkans.

This research undertakes a meticulous systematic literature review on the integration of technology within zakat institutions. With the surge in technological advancements, these institutions stand to reap significant benefits, particularly regarding the digital management practices in zakat collection and distribution. This review amalgamates various research methodologies and guided by the ROSES (RepOrting standards for Systematic Evidence Syntheses) publication standard. We selected articles from two foremost databases, SCOPUS and Web of Science, for this study. Thematic analysis yielded two principal themes: the fundamental understanding of digital zakat, and; practices of digital management. The former theme encompasses seven sub-themes (awareness, trust, perceived risk, personal innovativeness, information integration, technology implementation, and efficiency), while the latter is divided into two sub-themes, namely digital collection and distribution procedures. Our findings underscore the significance of implementing technology in managing zakat and present a roadmap for future research in this area. This study contributes to the existing body of literature by examining the adoption of technology in the field of Islamic social finance research.

“Beyond Jihad”: The Islamic Contributions to the Field of Strategic Studies
Felix Idongesit Oyosoro
Several historical literatures in the field of Strategic Studies (Gray, 2013; Heuser, 2010; Kane, 2013) have always centered its Hellenic and ancient Oriental origins, ignoring (or negating) the contributions of other cultures (African, Islamic, etc.) to the discipline. Furthermore, in the modern era, references to the Islamic strategy of warfare have been reduced to one of its components: Jihad (Bar 2008, Zabel 2007, Spencer 2019). This is due, in part, to the recent theology of Islamic militants (Al Qaeda, for example), who have portrayed (erroneously) Jihad as the sole strategy of Islamic warfare in contemporary times. As a result, this research highlights the contributions of Islamic thoughts on Peace and Warfare. This paper aims to highlight major Islamic scientific thoughts on warfare through a historical attempt. The goal of this exercise is to correct two errors: first, to reintroduce Islamic perspectives on peace and warfare into the canon of Strategic Studies, and second, to correct the contemporary perception of Islamic warfare contributions as primarily jihadist in nature. This study employs comparative historical research methodology to describe the vast literature of Islamic strategic thoughts and events in order to demonstrate the historical shortcomings of the west’s rejection or ignorance of Islam’s contributions to the field of strategic thinking.

Public hospitals are important agencies in the provision of public services. Upon considering the diversity of the people and the ability to provide appropriate services, human security can be realized. This research aims to study the development model of services among public hospitals attributed to Muslim practices. It is developed as qualitative research relatively collecting data through the optimization of in-depth interviews, document revision, and observation. The data is analyzed by applying the method of thematic analysis and content analysis. As for the result, it depicts that the model hospital has performed the service development of public hospitals attributed to Muslim practices, covering four key aspects. In terms of religious practices, the hospital offers relevant services to newborns, Muslim youth, prayer venue establishment, the provision during the fasting month, and terminal patients. When it comes to the provision of Halal food, a specific department is set up together with the preparation of responsible personnel. In parallel, the environment and venue for Halal food preparation are in control. The control also implies Halal process in raw material selection, logistics, production, and delivery process in addition to canteen service. In terms of patient gowns, the hospital prepares patients with the hospital gowns and grants permission to wear the hijab during a hospital stay. In relation to patient contacts, some guidelines are put in place to guide physicians when treating patients of the opposite gender.

The Potential of Waqf-Blended Finance Using Crowdfunding in Indonesia
Kabir Hassan, Nurul Meirama Irsyan & Aishath Muneeza
Significant obstacles to the development of Islamic charitable endowment (waqf) in Indonesia include the lack of accountability, limited financing, and mismanagement. One way to remove these obstacles is implementing waqf-blended finance, a newly developed model (therefore unexplored) that integrates waqf and commercial finance. The current research aims to explore the potential of crowdfunding for waqf-blended finance. The underlying assumption is that crowdfunding can help boost waqf fundraising and resolve liquidity and transparency issues in fund collection and distribution. Therefore, exploring the application of crowdfunding in waqf blended finance is essential. Improving waqf-blended financing itself is necessary because it can ensure project profitability. This study applies a qualitative approach with three stages of analysis: desk research, semi-structured interviews, and data analysis. The semi-structured interviews aim to discover the current practices of the key stakeholders. The data collected from the literature review and interviews were analysed to assess the potential of waqf blended finance concept, build a waqf-blended finance model, and estimate the model’s implementation challenges. The analysis covers both the external and internal challenges of waqf development in Indonesia, with the former being prioritized over the latter due to its more significant influences. The discussion encompasses the potential of two waqf-blended financing models, emphasising the critical role of crowdfunding and banks as waqf administrators (nazir). Since this study is the first to investigate the feasibility of crowdfunding in waqf-blended finance development in Indonesia, it offers a novel contribution to the field. From the findings, we propose considerations in the implementation of a waqf-blended financing model in Indonesia.

Ahmad Dahlan and the Moderate, Humanist, and Non-Sectarian Islam
Mohammad Hasan & Muhammad Taufiq
This article focuses on aspects of moderation, humanism, and non-sectarianism in Ahmad Dahlan’s thoughts and movements (1869–1923 AD) in Islamic education. The method of this article is qualitative with a textual approach and is the result of library research sourced from literature written by Dahlan’s students and scholars of Islamic studies, both classical and contemporary. Based on a moderate understanding extracted from the Quran, hadith, and some scholars’ understanding, Dahlan is more suitable to be categorised as a moderate-humanist or middle Salafism figure rather than being categorised as a puritan-fundamentalist or right-wing Salafism figure as misunderstood by some, because of his thoughts and movements in the Islamic education, religious, social, economic, and political fields are more moderate, nonviolent, open, and visionary humanists than contemporary reformers in the country, so that their thoughts and movements inspire philanthropic actions in the Islamic education, social, economic, and politic fields that are far from radicalism and terrorism, and contrary to the modernist group’s thoughts and movements that exist today, especially with puritan-fundamentalist groups.

Aesthetics of Religious Coexistence and Tolerance in the Shafak’s Turkish Novel
Mohammed Abou Adel
This paper explores the novel “Forty Rules of Love” by Elif Shafak, which evokes the historical personality of the great scholar Jalal al-Din al-Rumi, dubbed by the West “the Shakespeare of the Islamic world”. He was known for his moderation and tolerance, for his call to coexistence and fraternity between the members of different religions, and his condemnation of violence and extremism of all kinds. So, the novel strives to change the misconceptions of the West regarding the Asian countries of the East and to challenge the negative attitude towards Islam, known nowadays as Islamophobia. The paper aims to address the evil of fanaticism and violence and introduce the Western reader to the sublime spiritual aesthetics of the East, which starkly contrast to the savage image of Islam as presented by the media. By studying the novel, which has been translated into more than fifty languages, the paper also seeks to emphasise the role of literature, in general, in spreading cultural awareness among fellow human beings so that people can live in peace and safety.

The Axiomatization (Taq‘id) of the Critical Method (Manhaj al-Naqd) of Hadith Scholars: Responding to Anti-Intellectualism
Mohammed Tayssir Safi
The Criteria of Authenticity (shurut al-sihha), as a set of rules (qawa‘id), has in recent years come under severe scrutiny by contemporary hadith scholarship. This article will investigate one line of criticism which rejects the goal of developing theoretical rules (al-tanzir) altogether, and instead encourages the applied work (al-tatbiq) of analyzing Prophetic statements. This article will provide an epistemic analysis of the objection which situates it within a broadly anti-intellectualist framework. I will then respond to the objection by suggesting a different conception (tasawwur) of qawa‘id and then arguing that the relationship between knowledge of theoretical rules, and knowledge in the form of skills or abilities, helps rebut, or at least weakens their objection. Finally, I will show that the critical method (manhaj al-naqd) of hadith scholars is an epistemic apparatus (ala ma‘rifiyya), which aids those who apply it, in reasoning properly and protects them from making errors in epistemic judgement.

A Model of Ethical Management in Organisations: An Analysis of al-Ghazali’s Theory of Management
Mohd Hidayat Mahadi, Mohd Haidhar Kamarzaman, Mohd Asyran Safwan Kamaruzaman & Muhammad Hilmi Jalil
Ethical management is a crucial component of any organisation. While Western scholars have extensively explored the theory of ethical management in organisations, there have been limited contributions from Islamic scholars, serving as a major guideline. This article aims to shed light on al-Ghazali’s perspective on organisational management theory. According to al Ghazali, ethical management within an organisation entails a fundamental principle: placing the concept of Tawhid at the forefront. This means ensuring that the organisation’s actions and decisions are aligned with the unity and oneness of God. Next, the organisation should focus on implementing the four main aspects of management: planning (al-Takhtit), organisation (al-Tanzim), supervision (al-Wiqayah) and leadership (al-Qiyadah). Incorporating these practices can significantly impact the overall culture of the organisation, promoting an ethical and harmonious environment by making religion as the foundation.

Illegitimate Child Inheritance: An Analysis from Syariah Perspective
Muhamad Muizz Abdullah, Abdul Bari Awang & Mohamad Sabri Zakaria
An illegitimate child is born outside of legal marriage by both parents, as a result of adultery. The implication is that their rights in the Islamic law are hindered, such as inheritance from their biological father. However, is it the child’s right to be categorically denied from receiving his biological father’s estate? What is the alternative in syarak, in caring for their welfare? This study will analyze the ruling of illegitimate child inheritance from a syariah perspective, and thus propose some solutions to the problem. This study applied a qualitative approach using the library research method. The findings were obtained from articles, cases from the Syariah Court, acts, enactments, and analysis of fatwas in Malaysia. To achieve this objective, interviews were also conducted with a takaful consultant and an executive from the Amanah Raya Berhad (ARB). This study found that the instruments of hibah takaful, will, trust or testamentary trust can be implemented in Islamic estate planning to safeguard the welfare of an illegitimate child.

Muslims are very proud of the emergence of scholars of the past who have made tremendous contributions both to the Islamic and Western worlds. However, such glory and pride are undervalued as no serious efforts have been made to refine and apply to the tee all the contributions by past scholars in the efforts to rebuild the superior Islamic civilization. Hence, this article aims to introduce an authoritative figure in the Middle Ages who applied critical thinking especially in the field of Islamic knowledge that has greatly impacted Muslims worldwide. He is Shah Wali Allah al-Dihlawi who was an influential and prominent Indian Islamic scholar in the 18th century AD. This study is qualitative library research, using inductive, deductive and comparative methods in analyzing data related to the biography and intellectuality of Shah Wali Allah in the field of critical thinking. The findings found that Shah Wali Allah can be used as an example or model of medieval critical thinking that has brought about major changes in the field of Islamic science. He also prepared a critical thinking manhaj that is in line with the revelations thus making him comparable to other scholars of the past.

The Influence of Islamic Culture on Maimonides in the Development of Mishnah’s Legislation
Walid Reda Ali & Lila Abo-Elmagd
Maimonides, as a jurist, aimed to develop the Mishnah’s legislations; so, he wrote his book Mishnah Torah, which included the Mishnah’s legislations, and added to it legislations to fill the gap in provisions of the Mishnah. Maimonides used the books of the rabbinic heritage to complete this deficiency in the legislation. He reclassified these legislations objectively in his book Mishnah Torah, which he wrote in Egypt in 1117 AD, according to the method of Islamic jurisprudence books and Al-Muhalla by Ibn Hazm in particular. The current paper discusses the classification and division of the Mishnah and the Mishnah Torah, in order to find out the legislations that Maimonides added to the Mishnah. Also, it clarifies Maimonides’ motive for authoring Mishnah Torah. Additionally, this paper illustrates how the Islamic culture influenced on the classification and division of the Mishnah Torah according to the subject. Clearly, Maimonides was influenced in his book Mishnah Torah by Islamic jurisprudence and the Maimonides was influenced in his book Mishnah Torah by Islamic jurisprudence and the Torah objectively according to a method of Islamic jurisprudence books.
