Animal Cell Culture and ELISA Techniques: Intensive Hands-On Workshop
Date : 7 - 9 January 2025
Venue : INBIOSIS, UKM
Fees : RM1,000 / USD220 per person
(15% discount for registration in a group of 3 and above)
Trainers : Dr. Murni Nazira Sarian, Dr. Habsah Aziz &
Dr. Elson Lye Kwan Liang (ME Scientifique Sdn. Bhd. )
Workshop Outline
This training course is held to give participants exposure to basic knowledge in mammalian cell culture and ELISA, including the latest theory and applications. Cell culture is an important technique used as an initial support system before further studies are performed on animals. Cell culture techniques can also be applied to product development, for example guided biological assay screening to identify the biological properties of a metabolite. While the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is a type of solid phase enzyme immunoassay to detect the presence of a ligand (usually a protein) in a liquid sample using antibodies directed against the protein to be measured. ELISA has been used as a diagnostic tool in medicine, plant pathology, and biotechnology, as well as quality control checks in various industries.
Who should attend
Postgraduate students (Master and PhD students), Post Doctorate, Academicians and Researchers (Government and non-government institution)
Dr. Murni Nazira Sarian joined INBIOSIS, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia as a Senior Lecturer / Research Fellow in 2020. She received her first degree in Biomedical Science from International Islamic University Malaysia, followed by master’s in Biomedical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry in International Islamic University Malaysia. Her expertise is in functional secondary metabolites especially in wound healing, antidiabetic, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging and structure activity relationship. Dr. Murni is proficient in variety of mammalian cell cultures, rat & mice animal models, and molecular biology via omics approaches. She is also actively conducting training in cell culture practice, animal holding as well as product registration in collaboration with National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA).
Dr. Habsah Aziz is a senior lecturer at the Institute of Systems Biology (INBIOSIS), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Prior to this role, she was a medical laboratory scientist at the Stem Cell Transplant Unit, Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz. Dr. Habsah received her first degree in Biomedical Sciences from Universiti Putra Malaysia, followed by a Master of Biotechnology from Universiti Malaya, and a PhD in Molecular Medicine from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Her research centers on understanding cancer, with a particular focus on blood cancers, utilizing various omics approaches. This includes studying genetic mutations and exploring natural product compounds. She is also committed to further investigating stem cells, especially cancer stem cells, and their potential applications in cancer therapy. Dr. Habsah is proficient in omics studies, molecular biology techniques, cell culture, and functional bioassays. Notably, she explores the mutational landscape of childhood acute myeloid leukemia from diagnosis to relapse using whole genome sequencing. She is highly open to research collaborations, and anyone interested is encouraged to reach out to her via email habsah@ukm.edu.my
