EMC as research center and data repository for environmental and climate change

About Us

Environmental Management Centre (EMC) is a center that is developed under Institute of Climate Change (IPI) in collaboration with Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA) as a research center and a national repository data as well as a reference center for KASA regarding emerging issues related to environment and climate change.

For the long term goal, EMC will serve as a reference center for KASA in devising and producing policies related to environment and climate change. Along with this goal, EMC is in the process of establishing a network of expertise known as Malaysian Environmental and Climate Change Action Network (ME.CAN), which will be assembling all experts related to environment and climate change that will be comprised of experts from the inside and outside of the UKM. As a reference center for KASA, EMC also is developing a repository data to collect and store all data related to the environment and climate change. Amongst research areas that will be conducted by the EMC are environmental diplomacy, emerging pollution, ecosystem, education, social as well as any issues related to environment and climate change.

Main Function

Among the functions outlined by EMC in the agreement are:

  • Development of inventory and database for data collection as well as policies and policies related to environment and climate change;
  • Conduct relevant research studies / activities; and
  • Government referral and advisory center on environmental and climate change matters.

Thrust Areas

Pollution scenario planning and availability to deal with its effects and impacts.

Assessment of ecosystem resilience to pollutants so that pollution control actions can be taken to ensure environmental sustainability.

Evaluation of the effectiveness of CEPA programs and learning based on experience in applying environmental protection concepts and actions

Research on Awareness and Behavior in Waste Management and the Effectiveness of relevant existing policies

Evaluation of the effectiveness of strategies and diplomatic relations in maintaining regional environmental problems.

Emerging issues related to the environment and climate change.
