Abstract
Development and industrial economic theories state that growth in export contribute positively toward the growth in the economy. This study uses time-series data of Gross Domestic Products (GOP) and export, which
are divided by sectors, primary and secondary, from 1970 to 1998 for selected ASEAN countries, namely, Phillipines, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. It is found that both sectors are either co-integrated with CDP or have long-run relationship between them. Meanwhile, Granger- causality test analysis shows that growth in those export sectors promote growth in GDP. As a result, the analysis also supports the export-led growth hypothesis for the involving countries.
