Abstract
This study analyse the effect of institutional multilateral geopolitical impact on Malaysia’s direct investment abroad (DIA). This study used time series data started from 1998 to 2015. The focus of multilateral institution is subjected to G7, BRICS and ASEAN association only. This study used meta-geographical impact of institutional multilateral geopolitics which consist of military power and soft power. DIA is proxy by outwards FDI. Statistical analysis are based on descriptive analysis, principle component analysis and regression analysis ‘least square & ARMA’. Based on the results, institutional multilateral geopolitical impact have a significant effect on Malaysia’s direct investment abroad (DIA). Specifically, the soft power of BRICS and G7 negatively influence the level of DIA in Malaysia. Therefore, to deversify abroad, this study suggested that Malaysia’s MNC have to consider the risk and opportunities of institutional geopolitical’s soft power while making their strategic decision.
