Abstract

This paper studies the extent of vulnerable worker impacts in Malaysian labor market. Spesifically, this study analyzes wage differential between vulnerable workers and non-vulnerable workers by testing wage hedonic theory. Data is obtained through a survey to 1705 workers in private sectors. Based on OLS regression result, vulnerable worker’s coefficient is significant but non-positive. Thus, the wage is not adjusted for a compensation to those who work in unpleasant jobs. Further, female vulnerable workers are found to receive a significant lower wage than males. Therefore, the government intervention is crucially required to protect and guarantee vulnerable workers’ well being.
