Student Monitoring Development Committee
As college students enroll in courses and undergoing learning, they will gain much beyond the academic benefit. Through their courses, and through the guidance of instructors, students can develop attitudes and skills that help them gain confidence, work well with others, and better understand themselves and the world around them. In order to succeed in personal and professional endeavors, students must master “soft skills” such as problem solving, collaboration, verbal and written communication, teamwork, and leadership. In this department, we attempt to motivate our students through beneficial programmes including industrial visits and seminars with invited speakers from industry.
Since 2009, the faculty has leaped forward through the establishment of the post Ketua Jaringan Industri & Masyarakat (Industry and Community Patnerships) which is a sub-unit under the TNC Office of Hal Ehwal Jaringan Industri & Masyarakat (HEJIM) UKM. This unit handles, manages and promotes industrial activities between faculty students and industries, as well as communities.
We also encourage students to participate in various competitions to boost self-confidence and self-esteem in students, apart from applying engineering knowledge and solving complex engineering problems. It is strongly noted that all activities are in tandem with PO1, PO2, PO6, PO9 and PO10 of engineering program outcomes.
MONITORING OF WORKLOADS
To ensure the mechanisms for the monitoring of workloads are in place the department has formed a Student Development Committee (SDC) managed by academic staff. The purposes of this committee is to provide advice and guidance to students regarding the academic and career matters, such as selection of courses, as well as to provide assistance in handling problem including, but not limited to financial, stress, emotional and spiritual problems. If necessary, students requiring professional counselling are referred to Counselling Unit at Students Affairs & Alumni Department, UKM or referred to an appropriate professional counselling bodies or any relevant resources.
The Students’ Counselling Unit at the Students Affairs & Alumni Department, UKM offers a list of services to assist students in their development process. Students are given abundance opportunities to seek professional advice from the academic advisors. This includes the checking of student evaluations in terms of workload expectations and the real time involved so that an adjustment of the workload can be made.

STUDENT COMPETITIONS AND ACHIEVEMENT
While academic success as an undergraduate is certainly vital for some students, those good grades could translate into even bigger benefits. For example, some students who excel in their studies could be awarded dean’s list awards. Students who achieve a specific set of academic standards within a given timeframe are rewarded through their inclusion on the dean’s list.
The department also presents awards to high achieving students with the financial incentives and support, either sponsored by the university or in co-operation with various industries. The list of awards includes:
- Hadiah Razzaz Al-Jazari
- Anugerah Pelajar Di Raja
