1.1 INTRODUCTION OF ELECTIVE POSTING

AIM:
The aim of this elective posting is to give students an opportunity to undertake, for a period of 2 weeks [international] or 4 weeks [local] either at the end of year 3 or year 4, any humanitarian project of their interest.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  1. Experience and discover broader aspects of human life beyond the classroom setting.
  2. Critically reflect on the experience in the form of a written report


VENUE:

  1. Students are provided with theme/ list of institutions (governmental or non-governmental, locally or internationally) for you to choose and arrange your elective placement. If you cannot find any listed-institutions that match your interest, you may discuss your choice with the Elective Coordinator or his assistant.
  2. Students are not allowed to do electives in a hospital setting (except in overseas/ non medical related/ interprofessional)
  3. Maximum of 2 groups or 10 students per venue (first come and first serve basis).


PROCEDURE:

  1. Select an institution where you want to undergo the elective posting.
  2. Contact the institution and decide on the proposed activity.
  3. Identify a person that can act as supervisor/advisor during your attachment.
  4. Please download 3 forms from the JPP website (Application form, Student’s evaluation form, Elective Posting report)
  5. Submit the Elective Application Form to JPP Office@ bangunan praklinikal latest by WEDNESDAY 25th APRIL 2018.
  6. The Elective Coordinator should be kept informed of any changes made to the original proposal.
  7. If the institution requires an official Letter of Recommendation, please collect the letter from Academic Office@ bangunan pendidikan.
  8. A copy of approved elective application form should be collected from the JPP Office on FRIDAY 25TH MAY 2018.
  9. Go the elective institution during the designated period for (YEAR 3, 11TH JUN – 17TH AUGUST 2018) & (YEAR 4, 9TH JULY – 7TH SEPTEMBER 2018).
  10. Submit the Student’s evaluation form to your Elective Centre Supervisor upon completion for students to be assessed.
  11. Submit your written report (which includes a record of activities, critical reflection of experience) and also the Student’s evaluation form to the JPP Office in a hard copy latest by TUESDAY 2ND OCTOBER 2018.

  3. Maintain high standard of professionalism as a UKM medical student.
  4. To keep the Elective Coordinator informed in case of any unforeseen incident.
