ABSTRACT
The importance of comparing the results of contrast sensitivity tests to age matched normals has been demonstrated in numerous studies. To date no studies in Malaysia have been done to show the normal values in children and adults using the Pelli-Robson chart. In this study, Pelli-Robson contrast sensitivity was measured for 200 normal healthy observers in the age range of 4 to 30 years. It was found that children in the age range of 4 to 6 years had a statistically significant lower contrast sensitivity of 1.69 ± 0.10 log units binocularly as compared to other subjects between the age group of 7-30 years who had an average contrast sensitivity of 1.82 log units binocularly.
