At the end of this course, students are able
to to analyse complex engineering problems by transforming it into simple and
logic using numerical computations (PO1); to apply basic science and
engineering principles to solve
complex problem numerically (PO2); to solve engineering structures or systems
using numerical methods by the aids of computer softwares (PO3); to integrate
engineering analysis (including load and stress analysis) with selected
appropriate numerical technique to solve a given real engineering problem
(PO3). PO1 – Engineering knowledge PO2 – Problem analysis PO3 – Design and development
of solutions Advice: One hour
of class, the student should make his own reading of at least 2 hours. The
number of hours should be increased for students who are weak or have a low
grade especially below 2.5. Suppose you take 15 units, the
total number of courses including lectures is at least 40 hours. This means
that if you study 5 days a week, the time to study for yourself is at least 5
hours. If 6 days at least 4 hours and 7 days at least 3 hours 30 mins. If this
is followed by this advice, I believe students will have no problem
understanding, do not know the application, not enough training, can not do
computer programming. |

PART ONE Examples of the applications of numerical methods. Assignment #1 – What is the
definition of Numerical/Computational Method (CM)? Why must use CM? What
other topics provided by other university? Give any other useful website. Self
excercise from Bab 1 using MATLAB Download scilab, and Search for ‘scilab note pdf’ Assignment #2 – Compare the MATLAB & SCILAB source code
for the problems in Bab 1. Motivation #1: What should I do as a student? Comparison of understanding such as level # below; content in class ############ student understanding I #### student understanding II ####### effort after class ############################### (through reference books, exercises, understanding can be multiplied) |

PART TWO Closed methods, Open methods, Polynomial roots, Applications of Roots of Equations Assignment #3 [Exercise 1] [excel programming e.g.] Motivation #2: What
check-list should I have? 1. 1. Come to class 2. 2. Review lecture notes 3. 3. Review of reference books (Chapra or so) 4. 4. Complete the tasks & questions 5. 5. Run programming (excel, MATLAB, SCILAB or others) 6. 6. Discussion in the group 7. 7. Appointment with lecturer if necessary Not only this subject
should follow this check-list but all the subjects. Your understanding will
be multiplied. "Saya
