Introduction

The students will be given an introduction on the basic principles and concepts in Islam. They will research the influence of Islam and the contribution of Muslim in the development of technology and civilization, and be able to discuss the integration issues in multicultural community.

Goals

1. To give an introduction on the basic principles and concepts in Islam

2. To research the influence of Islam and the contribution of Muslim in the development of technology and civilization

3. To discuss the integration of Muslim in multicultural community

Syllabus

The course aims at introducing Islam, its contribution to the development of science and technology and the concept of Islamic ethics and professionalism, particularly in the engineering profession. The course includes discussion on the basic precepts of Islam, influence of scientific technique, philosophy and religion on technology development, and ethics and moral issues in engineering practice such as security, environment, professionalism, conflict of interest, corruption and computer ethics.
