Nano Mechanics and Materials
Friday 4pm-7pm (BS9)
Syllabus
Basic parts: Classical molecular dynamics
in the form of Lagrangian and Newtonian mechanics,
and the concept lattice as the basic concept of
mechanics principles of symmetry and the
crystallographic plane, the equation of motion Langragian lattice. Thermodynamics and statistical mechanics methods. Entropy and
second law of thermodynamics. Statistical description of multi-particle system. Maxwell-Boltzmann
distribution.
The second part consists of the introduction of multi-scale modeling. MAAD (Macroscopic,
atomistic, ab initio
Dynamics). Quasi-continuum method and CADD (coupled Atomistics and
Discrete Dislocation). Introduction to scale linkages
(bridging scale). Multi-scale Equations
of Motion. Multi-scale Methods for Material
Design. Numerical examples are Virtual Atom Cluster:
Bending of carbon nano-tubes.
