Anti-Harassment and Anti-Discrimination
The Anti-Harassment and Anti-Discrimination Policy at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) establishes guidelines to foster a safe and respectful environment for all university members, including students and staff. The UKM Integrity and Ombudsmen Unit responsible for the policy, which includes provisions for regular reviews every 5-7 years to ensure relevance. The policy emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive approach to prevent harassment and promote accountability within the university community. In the Anti-Harassment Policy at UKM, there is a Policy & Codes of Practice on Sexual Misconduct Prevention (Amendment 2021) that is stated which aims to create a safe, respectful learning environment by prohibiting all forms of sexual misconduct, including harassment, exploitation, and abuse.
Policy Principles:
All members of the university community are mandated to comply with this policy. Its implementation will be supported through comprehensive training and targeted initiatives aimed at raising awareness and preventing harassment in all university settings. This commitment reinforces UKM role as a leader in promoting human rights and dignity.
Governance:
- Accountability: Every Responsibility Centre within UKM holds collective responsibility for the implementation and enforcement of the Anti-Harassment Policy, ensuring that all actions align with UKM values.
- Policy Management: The UKM Integrity and Ombudsmen Unit serves as the primary custodian of the policy document, overseeing its application and efficacy.
- Monitoring and Publication: To maintain its relevance and effectiveness, the Anti-Harassment Policy will undergo a thorough review every 5-7 years. The UKM Integrity and Ombudsmen Unit will ensure that the policy is published and readily accessible, enabling all UKM citizens to familiarize themselves with its provisions and protections. This transparency is essential in promoting a culture of accountability and respect across the university.
