UKM Finalizes Sustainability Literacy and Knowledge Report Following Validation Workshop at Everly Hotel Putrajaya

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) successfully concluded a significant milestone in advancing sustainability education with the completion of the Sustainability Literacy and Knowledge Validation Workshop, held at The Everly Putrajaya Hotel. The event marked the final step in a comprehensive survey process initiated by UKM to assess sustainability literacy across its academic, non-academic and student communities.

The Sustainability Literacy and Knowledge survey, developed by UKM researchers in 2023 and officially launched in April 2024, was distributed to more than 5,000 participants. The survey, conducted between April and June 2024, aims to gauge the university community’s understanding and engagement with sustainability principles, encompassing critical areas such as climate action, energy efficiency and responsible consumption.

The Validation Workshop, held on 23 September 2024, brought together key stakeholders, sustainability experts, and UKM representatives to review the findings and ensure the report’s accuracy and alignment with global sustainability standards. This initiative is part of UKM’s continued effort to lead by example in advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. The collaboration involved extensive input from internal and external partners, ensuring that the report reflects the collective commitment of the UKM community to building a sustainable future.

The final Sustainability Literacy and Knowledge report not only highlights UKM’s commitment to fostering a sustainability-conscious society but also serves as a benchmark for future sustainability initiatives within higher education. UKM continues to be at the forefront of integrating sustainability into its academic programs, operational practices and campus culture, reinforcing its role as a regional leader in sustainable development.
