World Cleanup Day Program Johor State Level

The Marine Ecosystem Research Center (EKOMAR), ALAF-UKM in collaboration with the Mersing District Council, the Johor State Liaison Islamic Princess Movement, SWCorp, SWM Environment and Trash Hero Mersing have held a World Cleanup Day Program at the Johor State level which has been successfully held on the Tanjung Resang Coast, Mersing last September 28, 2024 (Saturday).

This program is a very meaningful initiative by bringing together various parties aimed at raising awareness about environmental care through the cleaning of coastal areas as well as some side activities such as waste collection and weigh-in competitions, collage competitions, and fashion competitions using recycled materials with the participation of approx. about 500 members of Puteri Islam in primary and secondary schools throughout the Johor State District. This initiative not only gives the young generation the opportunity to be directly involved in nature conservation efforts, but also educates them about social responsibility and the positive impact that can be produced through collective action.

This program was inaugurated by the Chairman of the Mersing District Council, Mr. Mohd. Norman Haji Noh, present as the official representative of the Mersing District Officer. Also present in this program were the Deputy Director (Strategy and Development of ALAF-UKM, Prof. Dr. Zaidi Che Cob, Chairman of the Islamic Daughters of Malaysia Movement in Mersing District, Mrs. Norlaila Md. Ali and the Branch Manager of the Solid Waste Management Corporation & Public Cleaning Mersing Branch, Mr. Faridatul Jamlus Mohd Moktar also gave solid support to this program.

ALAF-UKM would like to express its highest appreciation to all parties involved in the organization of this program. Through this joint effort, it is hoped that it can foster a sense of responsibility and love for the environment as well as preservation and conservation of the environment among the community, especially the young generation.
