5.3.2 – Policy for women applications and entry

Yes, UKM provides women’s access schemes and has a policy that ensures fair treatment regarding women’s applications, acceptance, and participation at the university. According to the Undergraduate Admission Requirements Booklet UKM Academic Session 2023/2024 (Page 11), it is explicitly stated that there is no gender-based discrimination, and all applications are open to Malaysian citizens who are at least 21 years old at the time of application, for all programs offered at UKM.

In 2023, the majority of student enrollments at UKM were female, with 13,867 female students out of a total of 20,341 students. This marks an increase from 2022, where 12,554 female students were enrolled out of 19,655 total active students. This data reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to promoting gender equality and inclusivity, further supporting Sustainable Development Goal 5, which aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
