UKM is an active participant in cooperative planning for climate change disasters, collaborating with local and regional governments to address the risks associated with climate induced disasters, such as floods, droughts, and the displacement of communities. UKM contributes its academic expertise to various committees, councils, and working groups focused on climate disaster preparedness.

Title: The Technical Committee (TC) on Climate Change established by the National Standards Committee (NSC), with specific reference terms, monitors national and international standardization activities within the scope of climate change assigned by the NSC.

Level: Local

Description: The roles of Technical Committee are :-

The TC shall be responsible for developing, preparing and reviewing Malaysian Standards for general and specific products, processes and practices for which it has been established.The TC shall approve release of draft Malaysian Standards within its purview for the purpose of soliciting public comments.The TC shall be responsible for reviewing comments and make the necessary revision to draft Malaysian Standards in light of the comments received.The TC shall submit draft standards developed under its direction to the ISC for approval as final draft Malaysian Standards.The TC shall be responsible for supporting the work of its parent NSC in international standardization activities by:Studying and assessing the relevant international standards and formulate national views and comments on issues related to the scope of the TC/SC;Studying and commenting and/or voting on draft international standards in related areas; andRecommending the adoption of International Standards as Malaysian Standards where appropriate.The TC shall support the NSC in coordinating participation in international/regional standardisation.The TC may establish a Working Group (WG) in accordance with the terms of reference of WG for the purpose of undertaking specific tasks.The rules of procedure and appointment of the TC shall be as prescribed in the relevant procedures of Standards Malaysia.

Description: The Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change (NRECC) has established a working committee for the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory in the Waste Sector, appointing the Department of Environment as the implementing agency. This committee will ensure Malaysia meets its obligations under the UNFCCC, including submitting National Communication (NC) reports every 4 years, Biennial Update Reports (BUR) every 2 years, and Biennial Transparency Reports (BTR) starting by December 2024. The initiative aims to strengthen the GHG inventory reporting in alignment with international climate agreements.

Title: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change.

Description: 
The main activity of the IPCC is the preparation of reports assessing the state of knowledge of climate change. These include assessment reports, special reports and methodology reports. To communicate its findings and explain its work, the IPCC takes part in outreach activities organized by the IPCC or hosted by other organizations, and provides speakers to other conferences.
