5.3.1 – Tracking Access Measures
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) systematically tracks women’s application and acceptance rates. In 2023, the university maintained a strong focus on gender equality, with 61.87% of applications coming from women, and an impressive 65.29% of those accepted being female. While the female application rate was slightly lower compared to 2021 (72.42%) and 2022 (60.79%), the percentage of women accepted remained consistently high across all three years.
This steady acceptance rate, with more than 65% of admitted students being women in 2023, underscores UKM’s ongoing commitment to SDG 5. Despite fluctuations in overall applications, UKM has ensured that women continue to make up a substantial portion of its student body, demonstrating a consistent prioritisation of gender equality in admissions over the years. The positive trend in 2023 highlights UKM’s proactive approach in fostering educational opportunities for women.
