Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

SDG 3 Indicator

3.3 – Collaborations and health services

3.3.5 – Mental health support for Student

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) provides various mental health support services to ensure the well-being of its students. These services aim to help students cope with academic stress, personal issues, and mental health challenges, promoting a supportive and healthy campus environment.

Kembara Kaunselor

UKM actively promotes good mental health to all its citizens. One notable initiative is the “Kembara Kaunselor,” led by the Student Counseling Unit of Center for Student Affairs (HEP-UKM). This program is conducted throughout the year. This program also involves trainee counselors visiting various faculties and colleges to set up booths that promote mental health awareness. The Kembara Kaunselor program involves six faculties and five residential colleges. 138 students from five residentials colleges namely Kolej Pendeta Za’ba, Kolej Ibrahim Yaakub, Kolej Ibu Zain, Kolej Dato’ Onn, and Kolej Aminuddin Baki and. 690 students from six faculties including the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Economics and Management, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Information Science and Technology participated in the session to meet counselors.

This outreach effort has been instrumental in engaging students in meaningful conversations about their mental well-being, providing on-the-spot support, and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health issues. Through these initiatives, UKM ensures that mental health support is accessible, proactive and integrated into the everyday lives of its students.
