This presentation examines Mexicoβs transformation into a major international migration hub (video support). Part 1 delves into the countryβs extensive history of migratory flows, tracing its development into a pivotal crossroads. Part 2 explores the complex interplay between contemporary history, politics, society and culture, shaping the dynamic relationship between Mexico and the United States.
Professor Silvia NΓΊΓ±ez GarcΓa has held the position of Director of the Los Angeles branch from UNAM during 2021 -2022. She is also a Tenure Researcher on U.S.- Mexico relations since 1989, at the Center for Research on North America (CISAN-UNAM), an institution under her leadership from 2009-2017. She is a lecturer on North American Studies at the School of Social and Political Sciences from the same university. She has been a Visiting Scholar at Georgetown University, Michigan State University, the Jawaharlal Nehru University in India, and the UniversitΓ di Lingue e Comunicazione (IULM), in Milan, Italy. Silvia NΓΊΓ±ez has been a distinguished member of the U.S.- Mexico Fulbright Commission, and Chair of the Metropolis International Conference in Mexico City in 2015. Her field of expertise is social structure, social inequality, migration, and gender in North America.
