Best Thesis Contest

INTRODUCTION

The Best Thesis Contest is jointly organized by Institute for Environment and Development (LESTARI) UKM in conjunction with OWSD Malaysia National Chapter. The objective of the programme is is to develop and showcase the research communication skills of undergraduate students from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. The competition hopes to encourage and cultivates students’ research presentation, and  communication skills. Presenting in this competition will enable the students to increases their ability to effectively explain their final year research project  in five minutes, in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Female students
  • UKM undergraduate students from the science based faculties  
  • Final Year students only

RULES

  • Participants are required to produce the maximum of 5 minutes video presentation about their research project  and presentation exceeding 5 minutes will be disqualified.
  • A single static PowerPoint slide is permitted. No slide transitions, animations or ‘movement’ of any description are allowed.
  • No additional electronic media (e.g. sound and video files) are permitted.
  • No additional props (e.g. costumes, musical instruments, laboratory equipment) are permitted.
  • Presentations are to be spoken word (eg. no poems, raps or songs).
  • The presentations and the slides should be in English.
  • The decision of the adjudicating panel is final.

JUDGING CRITERIA

  • Knowledge of the topic to be presented.
  • The impact and/or results of the research, including conclusions and outcome.
  • Presentation preparation and quality
  • Quality of the communication
