UNESCO Ecohydrology Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting
The UNESCO Ecohydrology Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) Meeting was conducted on 4 July 2019 at the Everly Putrajaya Hotel, Putrajaya that attended by 21 participants, i.e. 7 UNESCO’s Ecohydrology SAC members, 9 UNESCO Ecohydrology Demosites, and 5 local participants/secretariats. There are also 2 virtual/online participations from the University of Birmingham, UK, which joined the meeting via Skype during Video Conference Session. During this meeting, new Ecohydrology Demosites approval were made, where out of 7 proposed new demosites presented during the 2nd day of UNESCO Global Ecohydrology Demosite Meeting, only 2 new Ecohydrology Demosites were approved, i.e. Fengxi New City (the Sponge City) in Shaanxi Province, China and also the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR) in China, and hence the current total of UNESCO Global Ecohydrology Demosites became 25. Before closing, Prof Dr. Maciej Zalewski, Chair of the Ecohydrology SAC was also nominated Dr. Rahmah Elfithri to be part of UNESCO-IHP Ecohydrology SAC as well as to present a woman in this committee. All SAC members supported this nomination and hence she was elected as a New Core Member of the SAC for the remaining period of 2019.
