Brexit: Education Partnership between Malaysia and United Kingdom Not Affected – Datuk Noor Azlan Ghazali

BANGI, July 26, 2016 – Education partnership between Malaysia and United Kingdom (UK) will not be affected, despite UK’s decision to make an exit from the European Union (EU).

“UKM’s relation with universities from the UK will also not be affected,” said The National University of Malaysia (UKM) Vice Chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Noor Azlan Ghazali.

However, he added that he expects that some modification may have to be made for research that obtained grant from the EU, especially if the main sponsor is from UK.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director and Senior Fellow of Institute of Malaysian and International Studies (IKMAS), Dr Sufian Jusoh said education partnerships between UK and EU is the one that may be affected.

“Are there differences in costs, in terms of the students’ movement from EU to UK and UK to EU? This are some of the few ways how Brexit can affect education but rest assured, Malaysia will not be affected,” he said.
