UKM Ranked 160 in the 2020 THE Asia University Rankings

BANGI, 4 June 2020 – Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) is ranked 160th in the rating of 2020 Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings announced yesterday.

UKM has improved its ranking position to 160th this year from 170th in 2019, moving up 10 places.

This evaluation includes five indicators namely Research, Citation, Teaching, Industrial Income and International outlook. Among these five indicators measured by THE, UKM scores highest in international outlook with score 52.9.

Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ir. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Hamdi Abd Shukor said our (UKM) improved position to 160th place in the THE Asia University Rankings 2020 from 170th last year is definitely a very good news to UKM.

“I see this as our birthday present to UKM as we celebrate our 50th Anniversary this year. My appreciation goes to our professors, lecturers, management, staff and students for their tireless effort and contributions towards the excellence of UKM. Congratulations to all Warga UKM,” he said.

He said that UKM is one of the two universities in Malaysia that has made a significant improvement in the THE Asia University Rankings this year.

“The rise in the rank indicates that UKM is on the right track with regards to our direction in quality improvement and implementation of our strategic plan.

“University rankings is one of many instruments to benchmark ourselves with other institutions. I believe that if we continuously strengthen our fundamentals in research, education and service, good ranking shall follow as the result,” he said.

The THE 2020 ranking includes just under 500 universities from 30 territories.

A total of eight Malaysian universities were ranked in the eighth edition of the prestigious rankings.

With the position of 160th and being the top 200 in THE Asia rank, UKM will continue to deliver high quality education and achieve excellence in all areas of education and further strengthen the organization of UKM to lead the nation’s higher education, in line with the 50th years anniversary on May 18, 2020.
