BANGI, 26 Feb 2016 – Academicians have been urged to write research and present it in a form easily appreciated by ordinary folk, said the Vice-Chancellor of The National University of Malaysia (UKM) Prof Datuk Dr Noor Azlan Ghazali.

Many people not from the academic world cannot understand the complex knowledge presented by academics, he said in his speech during a Hi-Tea gathering with UKM writers, here on 24 Feb.

“Academicians will be well-respected by society when they become public intellectuals,” he stressed.

He said academics with authourity should carefully think about how they write before making their views public.

Prof Noor Azlan also voiced his concern about some writers who feel that their  documents are not important and have no value.

“Writings in the academicians’ world are important and honourable, but to say that writings in other disciplines have no value is totally wrong,” he remarked

He also stated that writers should come foward to help clarify matters with their arguments in plain language whenever contentious issues are raised in society resulting in misunderstandings.

The gathering was held as a token of appreciation to academicians for writings  based on their acountability.

Among those present were Deputy Vice Chancellor of Students’ Affair and Alumni Datuk Noor Aziah Mohd Awal, and Deputy Vice Chancellor of Industry and Community Partnership Prof Datuk Dr Imran Ho Abdullah.ukmnewsportal-eg
