PUTRAJAYA, 11 August 2016 – All students need to have ‘political power’ if they want to become a successful and respected leader, said the Second Minister of Finance, Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani.
He said political power is important to ensure that what is to be done can be implemented easily.
Political power, according to Datuk Johari, is the ability to think outside the box and the capability to be a good leader.
“If we don’t have political power, we will be left behind,” he said to UKM Student Representative Council (MPP) and Student Executive Council (MEP) when they paid a courtesy call at the Ministry of Finance, recently.
He said, students need to take the opportunity to become a leader while studying in a university, so that they will be well-equipped to face future challenges.
Datuk Johari also said that a first class degree does not ensure that one will secure a good job because being active in university and leadership qualities are also contributing factors to getting a good employment.
He also reminded students to have a dream if they want to succeed.
“Having a dream helps you reach your target.
“You may study law, but you don’t necessarily have to be a lawyer because there are a lot of other employment opportunities for you to be involved in such as being an entrepreneur,” he said.
A total of 29 MPPs and MEPs were present at the visit. The delegates were led by UKM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Noor Azlan Ghazali, and all the Deputy Vice-Chancellors.
