KUALA LUMPUR, 6 November 2017 – Medical graduates who are waiting for the placement of medical training (houseman) can follow a special tagging programme to gain exposure and experience in medical work before carrying out their duties as a medical doctor.

Deputy Minister of Health, Dato’ Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya said the programme will see graduates following the medical doctors who are on duty and observe the tasks done by the doctor.

“Normally, medical graduates need to wait between six months and one year to get a housemanship placement.

“So, this programme would be a good platform for them to sharpen their skills and knowledge, before embarking on their housemenship journey,” said Dato’ Seri Dr Hilmi, adding that the ministry will provide a comprehensive guideline to the programme.

He was speaking at the UKM Integrated Healthcare Internship & Career Day (IHICD) 2017, at Tun Syed Nasir College, UKM, recently.

He said the Ministry greatly supports UKM’s initiative to work closely with industry.

“I hope the IHICD programme can be organized yearly. We (the Ministry) always support  programs that can help students in obtaining employment,” he said.
