Ten UKM Students Receive Scholarship from SKG Group of Companies

BANGI, 8 Dec 2015 – A total of 10 students of the National University of Malaysia (UKM) have been awarded scholarships from the SKG Group of Companies (SKG Group) for the duration of their studies at the university.
The President of SKG Group, Dr Lee Siew Keong said the scholarships are part of the company’s programme of corporate social responsibility.
“Indeed, this is the policy and our responsibility in the corporate sector, that is to be involved in social responsibility to help those in need. In this way, it will nurture a balance in our community,” he said at Dr Lee Siew Keong Scholarship Award ceremony (Education Fund of SKG Group of Companies), here yesterday.
He expressed hope that the SKG Group fund will eventually reach the value of up to RM10 million from to help more needy and qualified students.
“To the students who are selected to receive this scholarship, I hope that you take this opportunities to increase your performance and brilliance because it will encourage other students and will be a valuable asset to the family, nation and country,” he said.
He stated that with the support and collaboration of UKM , he hopes that SKG Group will always be guided along social responsibility.
“I hope this cooperation will make us (SKG Group) more excellent in the future,” he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Prof Dato’ Ir Dr Riza Atiq Abdullah OK Rahmat said the scholarships are significant to students who received it to finish their studies at UKM.
“I hope that they (students) can finish their studies with good results and can contribute their energy to national development and possibly SKG Group also might be able to take them in to work in the company and further develop SKG Group,” he said.
He also thanked Dr Lee for his generosity in providing the scholarships for this year as well as the following years.
At the ceremony, a total of 10 students from Faculties of Medicine, Technology and Information Science, Science and Technology, Economic and Management, Law and Islamic Studies received scholarships of RM4, 500 per semester.
The scholarship were presented personally by Dr Lee and witnessed by Prof Dato’ Ir Dr Riza Atiq and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry & Community Partnership), Prof Dr Imran Ho Abdullah.
In September, SKG Group signed a Memorandum of agreement (MoA) with UKM to provide funds of RM2 million for five years
