UEM Group’s Contribution To Help Patients

BANGI, 1 June 2015 – the country’s leading engineering company UEM Group contributed RM350,000 to The National University of Malaysia’s (UKM) for its Advanced Surgical Skills Centre (SSC) at the Chancellor Tuanku Muhriz Hospital (HCTM).
Chief Executive Officer of UEM Group Berhad Dato’ Izzaddin Idris presented the donation from the UEM Zakat Fund to UKM Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Noor Azlan Ghazali here today in a brief ceremony.
Present were the Deputy Vice Chancellors Prof Dato’ Dr Mazlin Mokhtar (Research and Innovation), Prof Dr Imran Ho Abdullah (Industry and Community Partnership ), Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Director of UKM Medical Centre (PPUKM) Prof Dato’ Dr Raymond Azman Ali, Chairman of the SSC Assoc Prof Dr Hanafiah Harunarashid and senior officials of UEM and UKM.
In his welcoming remarkss, Prof Noor Azlan thanked UEM for earlier contributions to the PPUKM patient Welfare Fund .
He said at HCTM not all the cost of treatment can be borne by the medical center, particularly in terms of insurance coverage and medical bills of patients.
Last year UEM donated a total of RM250,000 to the same fund that is used for patients who cannot afford of surgery, such as implants, patients’ rehabilitation equipment, chemotherapy for pediatric patients suffering from cancer and so on.
Dato’ Izzaddin said UEM has the corporate responsibility to support the health and medical sectors because of their association with human capital.
“UEM Group sensitive to the needs of the less wealthy and we try our best to help ease the burden from time to time.
“Medical treatment can be quite expensive, and many are still unable to resolve the costs although the treatments are subsidised,” he said.
