BANGI, 14 Dec 2017 – Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) has been selected to host the Higher Education Institution Sports Meet (SUKIPT) 2018, to be held from 2 to 10 February 2018.

Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Dr Mary Yap Kain Ching said successful winners at SUKIPT will be representing Malaysia at the ASEAN University Games 2018 in Myanmar and World University Championship (WUC) 2018 in Kuala Lumpur.

“The ministry hopes to develop more national heroes from SUKIPT,” she said adding that the sports event will be successful if it is able to find news sports talents.

This will be the first time that India will be participating in SUKIPT. Other countries which will also be sending their athletes are Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia,” she said.

More than 6,300 athletes from 93 contingents will be competing for 238 gold medals, 238 silver medals and 399 bronze medals.

The biennial tournament encompasses 27 sports, involving 29 locations.
