UKM International Varsity Cricket Champion For Record 3rd Time

KLANG, 15 Nov 2014 – The National University of Malaysia (UKM) made history at the 7TH annual International University Invitation Cricket Tournament by emerging champions for the third time in a row at when they beat Christ University of India in the final at the Klang Oval here today.

Winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Christ University collected 103 runs in 39.3 overs.  However, UKM led by national squad captain Ahmad Faiz Mohammad Noor was in a confident mood when the home team surpassed the 103 runs at the 20th over in the second innings for a 4 wicket win.

UKM received cash prizes of US$3,000 and a trophy while Christ University had to be content with US$2,000. Third place went to Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology of Pakistan which took home US$1,000.

Teams from Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh also took part.

UKM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Partnerships) Prof Dr Imran Ho Abdullah, who represented the Vice Chancellor gave away the prizes. Vice-President of Malay Cricket Association of Malaysia, Dr Mir Shahariman Shaharudin, Ahmad Khuzaimi Bahri from Sports Department, Ministry of Education and Dr Tajul Arifin Mohammed, Director of the UKM Sports Centre attended the ceremony.
