National Consumerism Policy will be announced by year end, Dato’ Sri Sabri Yaakob

BANGI, 13 July, 2010 – The National Consumerism Policy, expected to be announced before end of the year, will encompass all issues on consumerism, including fraud through the Internet.
Ini announcing this today, Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the policy, now in the final stage of drafting, would be used as guidelines to address issues and problems on consumerism.
The policy, would be an improvement of the existing policy which had to be amended to meet current consumer needs, he said when inaugurating the 14th National Seminar of the Consumer Economic and Family Association (MACFEA) organized by the School of Economics, Faculty of Economy and Business Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
The two-day seminar entitled: Directions in Consumer Research: Issues and Challenges is being attended by about 100 representatives from NGO’s and public sector, which will discuss some 60 papers.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research Affairs and Innovations) UKM, Prof. Dr Rahmah Mohamed in her welcoming speech hoped the seminar will discuss the implications of the economic and consumer policy especially when the nation is facing many issues affecting the public like the rise in price of oil, sugar, lack of world food supply, global warming, environmental damage, subsidies and other matters.
